  3. Will oil heat remain? If yes, how will controls coordinate the systems?

  8. What is the gross project price before rebates?
Avoid rebate-first design. The system should be technically sound before incentives are applied to the economics.

Operating-cost comparison

Do not compare only the price of a gallon of oil with the price of a kWh. Heat pumps move heat rather than creating it through electric resistance, so seasonal performance matters. Home heat loss, local electric rates, oil price, thermostat settings, backup-heat use and equipment efficiency all affect annual cost.

Operating-Cost Comparison Should Include the Fuel You Stop Buying

Ask for a Design Heat-Loss Calculation

DOE and ENERGY STAR guidance emphasize load-based HVAC sizing. Oil appliances are often oversized, so simply translating the old boiler or furnace BTU rating into heat-pump tonnage can oversize the new system.
